The Blob is a character cartoon that I created to portray the simple aspects of life. He only has a head, eyes, and a body with the four major limbs to demonstrate simplicity. I used mostly primary colors to pop off of the page and made the Blob a light shade of green to stand out.
Savannah Daisies Pen and Ink
Daisies by the fountain in downtown Savannah, Georgia were enchanting on a summer day in 2015, and I felt obligated to capture the fine details of these flowers. In this pen and ink, I used the angle of looking up from the bottom of the stems to show their long stature and the never-ending sky on a clear day. Also, daisies can resemble death, like the saying “pushing daisies,” and this drawing should be seen as hopeful with a focus on the present and beyond.
Perspective of Perspective Photography
As a project about perspective, my intention was to confuse but also expand the perspectives of the viewers who take time to stop and look at my photo. Originally, I imagined distorting the view of a setting through a clear glass with it either empty or full of water. After a few failed attempts, I found a clear marble which turns any setting inside the marble completely upside down. This photo addresses that there are many different ways to look at a single setting or a design project. If we can take a step back and look at things as a whole, we can pinpoint unique and individually important characteristics about anything.
Abbey Colored Pencil/Gel Pen
The motivation for this drawing was to test my skills with a new technique: animal fur. I had taken a well-composed photo of my dog Abbey and decided to recreate her on paper. Once I had finished with the colored pencils, I noticed the highlights did not stand out enough from the rest of her fur. I used a white gel pen over the pencil to strengthen each highlight.
Gold and Organza Fashion Material/Fabric
This evening gown I created was to improve and use my sewing skills with different types of materials. The torso’s fabric is a stretchable, gold material and the skirt’s is red, shimmering organza. I was able to take ordinary, flat fabric and make it into a beautiful gown with folds and layering to bring out colors and the waist of model.
Grayscale Whale Graphite
Friends of mine wanted me to design an album cover for their band’s new album coming out in the summer of 2015. Since their name begins with “grayscale,” I instantly was driven to graphite drawings and a gray scale. After exploring the ideas of tubing, layering, and shading, I sketched out my ideas on paper. I plan to use Adobe Illustrator to graphically complete the album cover later.
AH Designs Colored Pencil/Marker
Creating personally customized shoes as my product, I needed a logo that was simple enough to recognize for my shoe designing company. All the designs on the shoes are unique, so in turn each logo can be unique to fit and complement the design on the pair of shoes. Not only could this logo be used with my shoe business, but I can create clothing or accessories and include my design on those objects as well.
Konfetti Keds Fabric Markers
After many unique and custom shoe designs, I wanted to create a design that was versatile and simple to pair with any choice of clothing. Originally, I only had black patterns on the shoes; however, that was too plain. After adding each primary color and coloring the shoelace rings with the colors included in the design, I had created what looks like confetti on shoes. I like to think with each step the shoes take, the confetti moves, creating a whole new pattern after each movement.
Setting Ducks Colored Pencil/Marker
My roommate and I joined an intramural volleyball team called the Setting Ducks. She wanted me to draw a picture for our team’s logo, and as a joke, I created what is a volleyball that morphs partially into a duck. This project is a perfect example of demonstrating the intentions of a designer: creating a design that fits the clients' needs and wants. What is only a quick sketch could become a popular logo for an employer, client, or business.
Trumpet Reflection Colored Pencil
The concept of this project was to use a composition that put the focus on the reflective aspect of an object. I believe this is one of my strongest, well-rounded pieces that shows off my skills. Using prismacolor pencils, I created this reflection of a piece of music in my trumpet. I not only have a love for visual art, but for the performing arts as well. Because I have a love for both types of art, I am able to use visuals to enhance the performances of musicians, dancers, singers, and many more artists.
